The Tuesday Question ???

I don’t know how it happened but somehow I’ve managed to subscribe to over a hundred RSS feeds. And they are all good. What to do? There is no time to read them all. At best, I end up skimming the headlines and only read the ones that catch my eye.

I think it’s time to start reducing the number of feeds I subscribe to. So, from now on, the last Sunday of the month will be ‘declutter the RSS feed list’ day, removing any that I haven’t read during that month…wonder if that will work???

What about you?

Are you overfed?

How do you juggle the feeds you keep?

Hi Liz - what service are you using for your feeds? I have tried feedblitz and google reader and I haven't fallen in love with either of them.

It's a great idea to de-clutter on a regular basis. I was just thinking I should do the same with my links and blogroll...

Hi Harmony, I just click on the little RSS feed symbol at the top of the internet explorer page and it tells me what to do...

I like that I can have a list of the feeds pop up along side whatever page I'm looking at. The list is highlighted bold for any new content and all I have to do is click on it.

Haven't checked out any other type of feeds - took me long enough to figure out this one... RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication (apparently)...

De-cluttering sounds like such a simple idea - yet it takes so much time and effort...

Good luck with your search a feed service that works for you...and with the de-cluttering...let me know how you get on...somehow think I won't get too far with the de-cluttering myself...to afraid I might miss something...

Cheers, Liz

Hi, I started following your blog recently...very interesting.

I use bloglines for my reader and have over 400 feeds(!). I hardly ever de-clutter. I often use the feeder rather like bookmarks, as a reminder about a site....totally changed the way I use the Internet. (I hardly use bookmarks anymore). Bloglines allows you to put feeds into folders for categorizing, which is useful. So, I just don't worry about having too many feeds. Just ignore the ones you don't want to look at but perhaps that easier with some feed readers than others.

Good luck with your writing!

Hi Jeff, thanks for stopping and leaving a comment.

Bloglines sound interesting, especially the part about folders, so might have to check it out... 400 feeds definitely sounds like overfed to me...

Cheers, Liz

Haha, love the picture Liz.

I use feedblitz, and have trained myself only to subscribe to those blogs that a) are about writing (or something writing-related) or women's issues, and b) I've visited more than a few times on my own (without the reminder of a feed).

I think I'm only subscribed to 20-something blogs, but there are times when I can't keep up. When that happens, I just visit my feedblitz account when I DO have time, and catch up on everyone's latest 2-3 posts. :)

Hi Alicia, you sound much more disciplined than me about adding blogs to your feed...I'm too afraid I might miss something really interesting...

will have to have a look at feedblitz.

thanks, Liz
