Whenever I arrive in a new city, one of the first things I do is find out where the food market is and when it is open.
It took me a little time to find this food market. Walking alongside the canals and over numerous bridges, taking many wrong turns, I finally got there. And as a reward, I spent the whole morning there, sampling the foods, taking in the atmosphere, and of course, going total snap happy with the camera.

I just love to watch ordinary, every-day things going on in Venice. It's just so interesting how they have to adjust to everything.
I am the same way about food markets, and since I am going to Venice this summer, I especially appreciated these photos.
Hi Sonja and Julie,
Glad you enjoyed the photos.
Was only in Venice for 36 hours and it simply wasn't enough. I must have walked miles in the time I was there, determined to see everything possible and avoid the tourist crowds as much as possible.
Julie, hope you have a great time in Venice - just make sure you pack some good walking shoes...
Cheers,
Liz
Very nice post, great photos. I think that Venice is really a great place to go if you ever get to Italy.
